Fiber To The Anywhere

Black Box: Reliable fiber-optic connection for every network
New technology provides comprehensive control and administrative options

Hallbergmoos, March 17, 2008 - With the Fiber-To-The-Anywhere technology (FTTx), Black Box, specialist for IT and telecommunications solutions, provides a solution for secure fiber-optic connections in a network. A range of models offers a suitable solution for every application, from single port media converters to multiplicators with integrated management and control functions. Available are multi- or singlemode, as well as WDM models.
Whether with or without IP - monitoring and administration is solely done by the administrator.

"With optical fiber getting cheaper and cheaper, its popularity is increasing steadily", Axel Bürger, Managing Director of Black Box Deutschland GmbH, explains. "Apart from a very long range and stability, the high bandwidths are a point in favour of this type of data transmission.

However, data transport is not always one hundred percent secure and often cannot be fully controlled. Our FTTx models therefore are the ideal management and control solution for a fiber-optic network."

The Black Box FTTx solutions allow full control of bandwidths, easily managed by means of definable links. The integrated IP-less management prevents unauthorized access, e.g., by hackers.

With Quality of Service, the use of state-of-the-art services, such as Voice-over-IP (VoIP) or Video-on-Demand, via optical fiber connections is possible. Topping it off is the models- VLAN function with Q-in-Q, which allows the secure installation of a VLAN within a virtual local network.

The FTTx series provides solutions for various applications, from the single media converter to switches with multiple RJ-45 ports. The media converter with integrated management function can be used together with the Black Box System II media converter. With the help of VLAN and VLAN Q-in-Q technology, management traffic is completely separated from data traffic. Suitable for additional copper ports at the edge are Black Box port multiplicators.
Both the 3-port as well as the 4-port models, are available with connections for the various optical fiber types. The singlemode version can be used for distances of up to 100 kilometers.
