Black Box bridges the gaps: new KVM Extender with USB 2.0 support

Uncompressed signal extension in real time

Hallbergmoos, October 28, 2008 - With the Dual Link DVI-D plus USB, Black Box, the specialist for IT and telecommunications solutions, presents a KVM Extender for the extension of digital video and USB signals to up to 400 meters. Uncompressed transmission in real time preserves the high quality of the video signal without losses. Moreover, with USB HID and USB 2.0 support, a multitude of peripheral devices can be connected.

The KVM Extender is available in two different versions: version one provides two multimode fibers as the transmission medium for Dual Link DVI-D video and USB HID (Human Interface Device) signals. Control devices, such as keyboards and mice, or HID-compliant touchscreens, can be connected to the HID interface. The second Extender version available offers a third multimode fiber that also supports USB 2.0 at speeds of 480 Mbps.
A maximum of four peripheral devices can be connected to the 4-port hub; via the USB 2.0 port, external hard disk drives, CD-ROM drives or even DVD burners can be conveniently operated up to 400 meters away from the computer.

A special feature is the DDC interface, over which real EDID information from the display can be received, read out and stored, thus preventing boot problems or black screens. The local unit has a DVI-D pass-through port for the connection of a monitor for local control from the computer side.

"KVM Extenders in general work with compression algorithms; as a result, data accepted at one end are not received in the same form at the other end. This could lead to delays in the transmission, which our Dual Link plus USB Extender avoids by transmitting signals uncompressed and in real time", says Axel Bürger, Managing Director of Black Box Deutschland GmbH.
"What's more, the device provides brilliant images for resolutions from 640x480 to 2560x1600 pixels - even over a distance of up to 400 meters."

Besides, the set-up of a new extender is quick and easy: without manual settings required any more, the extender can be put into operation straightaway.
