Black Box offers VDSL with Remote Power and PoE

Migration to IP video surveillance made easy with the VDSL Quadband Extender Set with Remote Power

Hallbergmoos, June 24, 2009 - The new VDSL Quadband Extender Set with Remote Power from Black Box, the IT and telecommunications specialist, provides power to the remotest corners of a network via VDSL. Only the local modem needs to be connected to the power supply, the remote modem is equipped with a Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) 802.3af port and receives its power via the VDSL line.
This allows, for example, IP surveillance cameras to be operated at the most remote locations at up to 1,000 meters distance - without additional connection to the power grid.

Unlike similar solutions of other manufacturers, the VDSL Quadband Extender Set only uses two wires for data and power. This allows for a data throughput of up to 25 Mbps; at a distance of 1,000 meters, the throughput it still 5 Mbps. It comes with RJ45 ports and terminal blocks for easy connection, and numerous safety features, such as overvoltage protection, overcurrent protection and protection against overheating, ensure smooth operation.

"It often doesn't make economic sense to have the optical fiber infrastructure cover the entire site", Michael Wüst, Product Manager Networking for Black Box Europe at Black Box Deutschland GmbH, explains. "Here VDSL provides a real alternative, since this technology only requires simple or already existing copper cables. Thanks to our set, additional circuits for the operation of the hardware connected are a thing of the past."
In particular, IP cameras, access control systems or wireless access points can now be operated in remote areas away from the power grid. That way the network and safety cover can be extended to the farthest end of a site.
