Black Box at the IBC: good news for the studio sector

ServSwitch DTX HD enables separation of audio/video cutting stations and media servers

Hallbergmoos, July 29, 2009 - At this year's broadcasting trade fair IBC (from 11 to 15 September 2009 in Amsterdam), Black Box presents the ServSwitch DTX HD together with other highlights from its extensive portfolio. With this KVM extender, computers can be totally controlled via a TCP/IP network, using only keyboard, mouse and monitor. Signals are effectively transmitted in real time, at a resolution of up to 1920 x 1200 and CD-quality stereo audio.
Moreover, any such extender lines can easily migrate to form a freely scalable switch matrix. Because of these outstanding features, the DTX is particularly suited for workflow management in studio and control room environments, as well as graphics and cutting workstations.

The DTX HD can be used in two configurations. In a point-to-point connection, it offers a high-resolution real-time extension via IP between a workstation and a computer. By using a control computer, these individual connections are extendable to matrix mode at any time. An extender and switching system can thus be created, in which a freely selectable number of users has access to any number of computers via login.
Besides keyboard, mouse and video signals, the extender also supports stereo-quality audio, as well as one USB channel each for storage media and USB peripherals. Jogwheels, touchscreens or space mice, for example, can thus be integrated without problems. The network protocol as the signal carrier allows the setup of homogenous switch matrices even across buidlings.
Thanks to TCP/IP, media conversion (copper/optical fiber) is not a problem; procedures commonly used in network technology, such as trunking and rapid spanning tree, improve failure safety considerably.

"Especially in studios and control rooms, loss-free transmissions in real time and absolute reliability are all that matters", Axel Bürger, Managing Director of Black Box Deutschland GmbH, explains.
"We were able to demonstrate our abilities in this sector with some of our recent projects at the ZDF or at N24, for example." Thanks to the space-saving design, the DTX receiver can be installed at a flat panel monitor (VESA), as well as hidden under or on a work place. Like any conventional extender, the DTX doesn't require any software installation on the computer connected. The device is fully compatible to the standard interfaces of the computers to be connected.
