Clean deal from Black Box: wall-mounted KVM terminal for operating rooms and similar sterile areas

Economical solution offers high protection of investment and reliability

Hallbergmoos, March 28, 2011 – With the wall-mounted KVM terminal from Black Box, the IT and communications specialist, an economical and hygienic computer workstation for operating rooms and similarly demanding environments is available now. The all-in-one solution with coated keyboard, mouse, and monitor, as well as integrated PC or extender, can process patient data, display high-resolution X-ray images, and, with the optional barcode scanner, record consumables quickly and thus document the operation.

The wall-mounted KVM terminal can either be operated as a stand-alone system with an integrated, fanless PC, or connected to a remote computer system using a suitable extender solution. It comes with a 19- or 20-inch display; dual display is available as an option. The foldable keyboard tray consists of a keyboard with antimicrobial coating and a pad for the silicon mouse. There are no exposed cables except for the mouse cable to the terminal. The round-egde terminal therefore boasts excellent hygiene properties, it is easy to clean and disinfect and complies with the IP67 standard.

“In critical environments such as operating rooms, users must be able to rely on technology 100 percent,“ Axel Bürger, Managing Director of Black Box Deutschland GmbH, explains. “Reliability is of utmost importance here. That’s why every workstation has to undergo a 24/48-hour endurance test before delivery. Our workstations have already proven themselves in long-term operation as well.“ Moreover, with the high flexibility provided by the integrable extender solution, protection of investment is ensured: the system can be extended at will to meet future requirements without the need for modifications at the wall-mounted terminal itself. Expensive operating room downtime caused by maintenance works can thus be reduced considerably.
